Fall into Giving: Ellie Mae's Season of Giving Back

Thanksgiving is fast approaching, and along with the turkey dinners and family gathers, the holiday is also synonymous with taking time to be grateful for what you have and to think about giving back to others. In the spirit of giving, every year Ellie Mae organizes a Fall into Giving season during which employees across the company are encouraged to participate by doing just one thing to give back. This year, Ellie Mae employees organized both large and small volunteer opportunities in an effort to make a company-wide difference across the country.

Below are just a few of the many activities that the Ellie Mae family engaged in during our Fall into Giving season:

Coat and necessities drives

Both our Pleasanton, CA headquarters and Omaha, NE offices came together to collect coats for those in need as the colder weather approaches. The Omaha office also collected essential items to create over 100 Blessing Bags which were given to a local shelter – including toothbrushes, toothpaste, band aids, socks, combs, winter gloves, mini water bottles, granola bars, and more. Our Solutions Engineering team also gathered to assemble 56 bags of full-size toiletries and delivered them to HABcore, a local organization that provides supportive housing and meals for the homeless in Red Bank and Asbury Park, NJ.

Blood drives

Ellie Mae employees came together to save lives by hosting blood drives at both our Pleasanton and Omaha offices. The Pleasanton office had 47 donations made (33 whole blood, 13 double red, and 1 plasma/red cell) and 61 units collected. And in Omaha, our blood drive registered 26 donors and hit our goal of 19 pints of blood - which can potentially save 57 lives.

Food drives

Our Content Management Team collected over 600 non-perishable food and basic hygiene items, to donate to their local food shelves in their communities, across six states. And our Omaha office donated over 1700lbs of food to the Open Door Mission.

Food bank support

Throughout the Fall into Giving season, our teammates volunteered at food banks and food pantries across the county. At the Alameda County Food Bank, the team sorted and bagged 6,950 pounds of produce by the end of their half-day shift, which contributes to ~6,000 meals worth of food. The Parsippany, NJ office participated in its annual trip to the Interfaith Food Pantry, during which the team donated 240 lbs. of canned goods and then spent the day preparing 64 meals for their Home Delivery Program. Our Content Management Team gathered at Winsor Plaza Senior Housing in Lakeville, Minnesota to support the Open Door Mobile Pantry and distributed 991 pounds of perishable goods, and 302 pounds of non-perishables. Ellie Mae teammates in St. Louis gathered for the third time to participate in the annual St. Louis World Food Day event where they packaged 1,974 meals (329 packages), raised awareness, and encouraged people to take action to alleviate hunger worldwide.

Table tennis and bocce tournaments

Our teammates gathered at our headquarters in Pleasanton to have fun and raise money for a great cause during these tournaments. All proceeds from the entry fees for both our table tennis and bocce tournaments went straight to the Ellie Cares program.

Baby2Baby volunteering

Baby2Baby provides children living in poverty, ages 0-12 years, with diapers, clothing and all the basic necessities that every child deserves. Our teammates in El Segundo, CA visited their warehouse and had a great time sorting donations, marking inventory, and organizing toys and bookshelves.

Habitat for Humanity

Our teams in Pleasanton volunteered in one-hour shifts to help paint and construct playhouses for children and families in need. Each playhouse had different themes, including outer space, woodland animals, a police station and more. And our teammates in Denver, CO helped out at a ReStore location of Habitat for Humanity where they collect donations of items that can be used to restore existing homes (doors, windows, hardware, furniture, rugs, and more) and sells the items to the general public.

Charity runs and walks

Our teammates from the St. Louis area gathered at the JDRF One Walk to support those diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and to march towards finding a cure. Our team in the San Francisco Bay Area participated at the 5k run for the 11th Annual Asha-Jyothi Walk/Run at Lake Elizabeth in Fremont, CA.

Looking ahead

We are blown away by the participation of hundreds of our teammates in charitable events across the country during our Fall into Giving season and this is only the tip of the iceberg for our giving back initiatives. Stay tuned for more from our Ellie Cares community!
