Experience 2017: Tuesday Recap

What an enormous success! As we wind down the last of today’s breakout sessions, we’re taking the time to reflect on today’s jam-packed agenda of events. Here are a few of the highlights.

The day’s General Session commenced at 8am, with Keynote speakers Jonathan Corr (President & CEO, Ellie Mae) and Adam Grant (Best-selling Author and Wharton Professor) headlining the session. Following an exciting introductory video featuring Jonathan himself and daring secret agent stunts, Jonathan delivered an important message to our customers: We’re always seeking ways to further our vision to automate everything automatable for the residential mortgage industry. More than that, we’re here to give our customers the tools and solutions to help homebuyers achieve the American Dream of homeownership.

Keynote Speaker Jonathan Corr, President & CEO, Ellie Mae, addresses an audience of hundreds at Experience during Tuesday’s General Session.

Adam Grant gave an outstanding talk on Original Thought. Adam is a professor at Wharton and a New York Times best selling author. He has been recognized as one of the world’s 25 most influential management thinkers, was named Fast Company’s 100 most creative people in business and is one of Malcom Gladwell’s favorite thinkers. According to Adam, Originals are people who:

1. Take risks on novel ideas.
2. Make the unfamiliar familiar.
3. Admit their weaknesses.
4. Hire differently.
5. Fight groupthink.

During today’s keynote, Adam stressed the importance of being an original thinker when innovating. “Your peers are invested in seeing new ideas take off,” he noted. According to Adam, an original thinker cannot be afraid to take risks on novel ideas and must be willing to make the unfamiliar familiar – he asserted that it often takes ten to twenty times to hear a new idea before people begin to accept it. In addition, Adam expressed that an original thinker cannot be afraid to admit his weaknesses and address the counter argument to a new idea. By doing these, an original thinker will move the world around him. He left the audience with the hope that we can help create a world that has more Originals. Numerous interactive breakout sessions were held throughout the day as well. Ellie Mae employees and product experts including mortgage industry leaders, led interactive sessions where attendees could gain valuable insights on relevant industry topics including new best practices for Loan Officers, successfully marketing to next generation homebuyers, better loan quality through automation, and more.

Jeff Benjamin (Senior VP, Sales and Client Management, Ellie Mae), Nathan Majchrzak (Van Dyk Mortgage) and Faramarz Moeen-Ziai (Commerce Mortgage Home Loans) deliver a presentation and break down the new best practices for Loan Officers.

Two major announcements were made on behalf of Ellie Mae earlier this morning. First, the introduction of Encompass Consumer Connect®. Consumer Connect turns interest into applications, speeds closings and provides a better home loan experience for borrowers. Through an easy to use drag and drop system, our customers will be able to extend their brand to homebuyers with a fully customized web experience that allows them to research rates and loan options, request information and complete a loan application all online through a tablet, smartphone or laptop. Secondly, the introduction of Encompass Developer Connect was announced, including our APIs, tools and comprehensive developer portal that can be used to create new features for Encompass® or to build and deploy custom applications in the cloud.

This year, our Ellie Mae Cares volunteer program is on site stuffing plush animals for children that are going through difficult times. Attendees are free to stop by the Lafite Ballroom anytime from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. today or tomorrow to get involved in our Build-a-Bear initiative. This wonderful opportunity supports local Las Vegas charities such as Ronald McDonald House of Greater Las Vegas, Community Outreach of Nevada, CIS (Communities in Schools) Nevada, St. Jude’s Ranch for Children, and The Foundation for Positively Kids.

Our sponsors, exhibitors and partners could be found at the Exhibit Hall throughout the day. If you haven’t already, be sure to visit them during open hours tomorrow to learn how to use their services in Encompass and take your business to the next level.
